Hot Stones

 

 

Hot Stone Massage is a style of massage therapy in which water-treated stones are placed at specific sites on the client's body to promote relaxation and to help open up the merdians (energy pathways). 

Stones have been used in ceremony and treatments dating back to the Incas, Shang Dynasty in China (approx 1500 BC) and the Egyptians. 

Muscles are pretreated with the heated stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations. Cool stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones.

Thermotherapy is the application of hot and cold treatments, which relates to the hold and cold bathing admired by the Greeks for their healing properties. 

Massage oils are incorporated into the massage treatment.

The stones are heated to 50°C which allows a deeper effect than massage holistic massage alone.

One movement with the stones is equivalent to four or five with the hands.
